Chinese Barbecue Pork (Char Siu Pork)
A umami, sweet and savoury roasted pork with a depth of spice flavour and aroma. So flavourful that all you need is a simple steamed rice and a blanched choy sum/bak choi to go with it.
Ingredients
- 900g pork shoulder
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
Herbs & Spices – FinaMill it !
- 1 teaspoon Chinese five spice (link to spice blend)
Method
For the Marinade
1.In a mixing bowl, add the hoisin, soy sauce, honey, sugar, using FinaMill grind Chinese five spice. Mix well.
2.Evenly rub the marinade onto all sides of the pork shoulder.
3.Cover with foil and let sit in the refrigerator overnight
Barbecue pork
1.Preheat oven to 190°.
2.Line a tray with foil and place a rack on top. Transfer the marinated pork on top of the rack. Retain the marinade.
3.Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, turn the pork over and baste with marinade. Bake another 20 minutes.Brush on the remaining marinade on 2 sides, bake another 5 minutes each side, turn off the heat and leave the pork in the oven to rest for a few minutes.
4.Slice into pieces to serve.
